Clothing assists actors in creating their characters and setting the mood of a film. But where do the clothes come from? Who designs them? Learn more about the impact of fashion and film at the panel discussion after the designer showcase of Linda Rowe Thomas of Little Rock. The Arkansas Fashion Council and BFF presents “Breakthroughs: A Fashion Event Celebrating Women of Color,” at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the Meteor Guitar Galley in Bentonville.

Thomas is an award-winning fashion designer, author, philanthropist, and motivational speaker who uses her own adversities to inspire others. At age two, she survived a house fire, which left her with facial scarring and without fingers on her left hand. Despite her impairment, she founded her couture fashion brand, Romas by Linda Rowe Thomas, and later founded the Designing Hope Foundation, a 501 c3 organization benefiting burn survivors and those with disabilities.

She has made it her mission to empower others to love themselves unconditionally while maintaining impeccable quality in her haute couture clothing collections. She, to this day, still sews each garment by hand, according to www.worldwomanfoundation.com. In addition to showing at more than 10 Fashion Weeks around the world, Thomas is the first and only burn survivor to showcase on the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week platform.

The Arkansas Fashion Council is a non-profit organization providing platforms for the creatives in the state to collaborate in an effective way with the goal of elevating the fashion scene in the state. Its mission is to create an inclusive fashion network and support system educating creatives, nurturing children, and promoting students.
